So! for week two, I will be talking about how AWESOME people have decided to use the internet, specifically Social Media, to spread love, ideas of peace and warm fuzzy feelings to people who get depressed because they spend way too much time online.

it has garnered the affection of the internet. Soul pancake shows us how social media can be utilized to spread LOVE to more people around us. Because happy videos make happy people. Duh.

TED, the acronym of Technology, Entertainment, Design, is the name of conferences owned by Sapling Foundation, a non-profit organization. TED's mission states their passion in the belief that ideas have the power to "change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world." Therefore, they stand as a curator that "offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other."
The talks have been offered free for viewing since June 2006, THANK YOU TO WHOEVER MADE IT POSSIBLE. In mid November 2012, TED talks have been viewed one billion times worldwide!

If you are as obsessed with lists as I am, then buzzfeed is for you. It is filled with endless pages of GIFS and lists about the most practical things to the most nonsensical.

This website makes use of social media such as youtube and allows sharing of articles on assorted social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, email and Pinterest.

When people see heartwarming, happy or content that touch their hearts, they would want to share it with others! Sharing of articles on social Media sheds light on different situations around the world that we might not be aware of. Through sharing and retweeting/ reposting/ etc, members of the social network start to see life in a different way and be more aware of the world around us. For example, one of the things that touched me kind of was this project that the U.N. High Commission for Refugees called "The Most Important Thing: Syrian Refugees". These photographs depict Syrian refugees with their most prized possession.

However, there are many creepy and scary posts that have been reposted and retweetd, shared over a million times due to the fear associated with things that might happen. Though it invokes fear and might possibly be false, such posts do serve as a reminder and as a caution that there are BAD GUYS out there and that we should be careful.

How Social Media is used as a channel to help people in crisis:
Social Media has also been a great way for normal everyday people like us to help normal everyday people in different parts of the world going through difficult, life- threatening situations. Which means that everyone and anyone can be a lifesaver!
